Girl Scouts Need Volunteers To Help Send Care Packages To Troops Overseas

CLARK — Girl Scouts Heart of New Jersey (GSHNJ), in partnership with Operation Shoebox New Jersey, is seeking Girl Scouts and adult volunteers to help at a packing event at Mother Seton Regional High School in Clark from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. on Jan. 28.

Operation Shoebox New Jersey has received both financial and moral support from Girl Scouts Heart of New Jersey. About $260,000 of product donations from GSHNJ’s Centennial nut and candy sale was donated to the organization. One soldier wrote in a thank you letter to Operation Shoebox, “Many of us have girls at home and some current or former Scouts. Thank you so much for bringing a smile to our face and pride in our heart that so many Americans are still standing with us.”

Two hundred volunteers are anticipated to participate in the event and are encouraged to donate cans of fruit, trail mix, gum, candy, granola bars, powdered drink mixes, coffee, tea, oatmeal, hot chocolate, toothpaste, toothbrushes, ear swabs, moist wipes, sunblock, eye drops, soap, shampoo, socks, stationary, envelopes, pens, batteries and other nonperishable food and personal care items.

Participants can bring name and deployment address of family and friends serving overseas to whom they would like to have a package sent. Volunteers will also have an opportunity to write a letter or card for the troops, which will be inserted into the care packages.
