CRANFORD – On Monday, Dec. 19, Theodosia Tamborlane of Cranford, a Union County College alum, dedicated “Ombrello’s World” to Union County College.

Tamborlane, a 2008 graduate, earned her Associates degree in Fine Arts after a career as more than 30 years as a lawyer. She was inspired to paint “Ombrello’s World” while taking a horticulture course with Dr. Thomas Ombrello.

Dr. Ombrello is a 37-year employee, was surprised and honored when he learned of his influence on Tamborlane’s work. In his many years of teaching, he has served as a mentor to many students in the biology department but was flattered when he learned how he was able to influence and inspire an art major. In addition to teaching, Dr. Ombrello has established a historic tree grove at the college, in which trees have been grown from seedlings of trees with historic value.

Prior to its permanent location at Union County College, Tamborlane had shown “Ombrello’s World” in various exhibitions. One such exhibition was the Florida West National Juried Exhibition.
