First, I’d like to thank everyone who supported our holiday fundraising efforts this year – donors and volunteers alike. As well, many thanks to our generous friends who continue to support our work in New Jersey. It is only with our supporter’s help that we can even attempt to meet the rising need and assistance requests that are flooding in.

Our 2011 Red Kettle fundraising season is coming to a close. As I write this, assistance requests for The Salvation Army in New Jersey are up as much as 22% but we are far from reaching goal. In fact, we’re only at 65% of our kettle goal with less than two more days of kettle collections.

Because our holiday fundraising has not been as successful as we had hoped, I’d like to remind everyone that it’s not too late to make a tax-deductible donation to The Salvation Army for this year. More than simply receiving a tax deduction, you can still help The Salvation Army and in turn, you’ll also help your neighbors in need.

You see, holiday donations including those from kettles, are used throughout the year, not just during the holidays. And our fundraising need to be very successful in order to help almost 400,000 New Jersey residents who come to us for assistance. We’ve got a real challenge on our hands as we enter the new year. So many more people are coming to us for help and we don’t want to be forced to reduce our services in these stressful, economic times.

I know how important our food pantries are to people who are hungry. I know what a difference a hot meal and a warm blanket mean to people whose stomachs are empty and who are very, very cold. And I know the relief parents feel when we’ve helped with a prescription for their child who is ill.

It’s not too late to make a donation to The Salvation Army’s holiday fundraising efforts. If you’d like to make a donation via the Internet, please visit www.salvationarmynj.org/christmas. To make a donation by phone, please call 1-908-851-8232. To make a donation by mail, please send your check to: The Salvation Army, PO Box 3170, Union, NJ, 07083. To make a text donation, text GIVENJ to 85944 and reply YES to confirm your $10 donation. For more information, please call 1-908-851-8227.

Many thanks to all our supporters. May you have a Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year.
