Elizabeth Residents Advised To Keep Windows Closed Because Of Fire

Smoke from an Elizabeth warehouse fire is visible from large portions of the city.

ELIZABETH – Mayor Chris Bollwage advised residents in the North Elizabeth area to keep their windows closed due to the smoke from the large fire on Newark Avenue.

His message, sent via the UC First Alert system, also advised motorists  to refrain from using air conditioning units and utilize internal vents while driving in the area.

Newark Avenue is closed from North Avenue to Virginia Street, and everyone is asked to avoid the area and expect traffic delays.

The seven-alarm fire is expected to last for days, according to the mayor’s message sent via the UC First Alert system. The warehouse building has already been burning for nearly 24 hours, and an NJ.com report suggests that it may be arson.
