WATCHUNG — Three students from Mount Saint Mary Academy in Watchung were honored by Leadership Somerset Class of 2011 on Dec. 10. Juniors Alyssa Torres of Green Brook, Janelle Kranz of Middlesex, and Kaitlyn Pellicano of Dunellen received Somey Awards for their original public service announcements highlighting Somerset County non-profit agencies.
Torres and Kranz were awarded first place for their video on the Somerset County Library System while Pellicano won first place for her video on the Somerset County Parks Commission. The contest, open to students in Somerset County in grades six through twelve, was aimed at engaging young people and raising awareness of county non-profits.

All three students are members of the Mount Saint Mary Academy Communications Club, an extracurricular activity that allows students to gain insights into multiple aspects of broadcast journalism including video production. The winning videos will be shown during the May 17 Somerset Patriots game. They will also appear on local cable channel PCTV and New Jersey public television channel NJTV.
