Elizabeth Woman Appointed Student Representative To Union County College’s Board Of Trustees

CRANFORD – Melinda Ayala, Class of 2011, was sworn in as the Student Representative to the Union County College Board of Trustees at the Annual Reorganization meeting on Nov. 29. The meeting was held at the college’s Cranford campus.

As the Student Body Representative, Ayala will serve on the board for one year. The position of Student Representative was created by state law. Ayala will also serve as a member of the board’s Educational Planning and Policy Committee.

Ayala is a resident of Elizabeth and graduated from the college with her Associate in Science degree in May. She is currently enrolled at Rutgers University in Newark and is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in International Business. The mother of two, she enjoys playing sports with her teenage children and volunteers in her community. While a student at Union, Ayala served as president of Chi Alpha Epsilon, was a member of the Psi Beta Honors Society, and the Women’s Leadership Club. For relaxation, she enjoys reading and writing poetry.
