Kogan Appointed Chairman Of Saint Barnabas Medical Center Board Of Trustees

LIVINGSTON — On Jan. 1, 2012, Richard J. Kogan will assume the chairmanship of the Saint Barnabas Medical Center Board of Trustees. Kogan is presently the vice-chairman of the Board, and is also a vice-chairman of Barnabas Health, the parent organization of Saint Barnabas Medical Center.

“Richard Kogan has been an active member of the Board of Trustees since 1992. We are thrilled that he has accepted the Chairmanship given his expertise in managing complex organizations,” said Barry Ostrowsky, president and chief operating officer, Barnabas Health.

“Mr. Kogan is an outstanding leader. He is an experienced, knowledgeable healthcare executive and I am looking forward to working closely with him in his new expanded role,” said John F. Bonamo, MD, MS, Executive Director, Saint Barnabas Medical Center.

Kogan is the retired CEO of Schering-Plough Corporation, a Fortune 500 international pharmaceutical and consumer products company. He is the President of The KOGAN Group, LLC, which provides advice and counsel to chief executive officers of for-profit and not-for-profit enterprises. Kogan is a director of the Colgate-Palmolive Company and the Bank of New York Mellon. He serves on the Board of Trustees of New York University and on the Executive Committee of the Board of Overseers of the Stern Business School at NYU. In addition, Kogan is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations.

He has written numerous articles, which appeared in such publications as the Wall Street Journal, Washington Post and Health Affairs. Kogan received his BA from City College of the City of New York, and an MBA from New York University. He has been the recipient of honorary doctorate degrees in Humane Letters and in Laws. Kogan and his wife are long-term residents of the community.
