PERTH AMBOY – Police arrested a 53-year-old woman who allegedly stole a GPS device from a car parked in a lot on Smith Street Monday evening.

Marva Regina Mathis was charged with theft from a vehicle and bail was set by Judge George Boyd at $2,500 with no 10 percent option, authorities said.

On Dec. 5, police responded to the reported theft at 7:21 p.m. A witness reported that Marva Mathis opened the door to the vehicle and removed a white Nextar GPS and a pair of gloves, authorities said. The witness quickly grabbed Mathis and held her until police arrived on scene.

As with all criminal defendants, Mathis is presumed innocent of the charges until she is proven guilty in court.
