ELIZABETH – Union County College’s Division of Continuing Education now offers certification to become an Administrative Dental Assistant. This new career program teaches the essential skills needed to manage the front end business aspects of a dental practice. Students will learn dental terminology and anatomy, medical records management, accounts receivable and reimbursement management, insurance and patient billing, patient scheduling, and procedural and diagnostic coding.
Those who complete the program will be prepared to find a new job as an administrative dental assistant. Students will learn skills such as how to communicate dental terminology effectively, how to relate to patients in a professional and caring manner, how to maintain accurate patient records, and how to process dental insurance.
The entire certificate program can be completed in less than one year. In order to begin the certification process, one must first take the course, “Introduction to Dental Terminology.” This course will begin on Jan. 23, 2012 and will be held on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, through March 19 from 8 to 11 a.m. It will be held on the college’s Elizabeth campus in the Kellogg Building, located at 40 West Jersey Street.
The program consists of a total of four courses.
