CLARK — Looking for an opportunity to be of service, 50 students from Mother Seton Regional High School have joined the Campus Ministry Club known as “Loaves and Fishes.” This club has its foundation in the Gospel story of the multiplication of the loaves and fishes in which we are told that a young boy’s generosity led to the miraculous feeding of over 5,000 people.

While these 50 students may not literally be feeding people, it is the goal of the club that service to others will be multiplied by the generous sharing of time, talent and financial resources. Each member is required to take one project each semester.

During the first semester, students worked on two projects: “Operation Warm Heart” and “Seasonal Sights and Sounds.” Operation Warm Heart is one part of the programs and services of the Elizabeth Coalition to House the Homeless. The students prepared duffel bags filled with the supplies needed by the homeless men and women who are served by the Coalition. These homeless persons are provided shelter throughout the winter months at a number of sites in Union County.

The second project, Seasonal Sights and Sounds, was carried out in response to a request of two graduates of Mother Seton Regional, Patty Swick and Bridget Wilczek, both of whom are presently attending college. A variety of Christmas decorations, cards, gifts and candies have been purchased and will be sent to our service women and men for Christmas.

The moderator of this club, Sister Mary Anne Katlack, SC, Campus Minister at Mother Seton, is overwhelmed by the generosity of these young women. She stated that “this outpouring of service and charity is only one example of how MSR students carry out the school’s mission ‘…to achieve excellence in academics, personal growth and service to others…’”
