RAHWAY — The Blue Tri Club, a service club at Rahway High School and one of the oldest organizations in the school, provides Thanksgiving baskets to families of school-aged children in need each year.

Blue Tri enlists all homerooms in the school in collecting canned goods and other non-perishable foods. Collection takes the form of a competition, with the homeroom collecting the largest amount of food receiving a special breakfast provided by Blue Tri. In addition, students at Madison School and Franklin School collect such foodstuffs and contribute to the effort. Teachers at the high school bring in turkeys.

Students from the Marine Corps Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps assist with assembling materials. Last year, food baskets were provided to over 25 families. Blue Tri advisors Adrienne Barnes and Christine McNicholas anticipate that the massive sorting and packing effort will be even more grueling this year because construction at the high school will require moving all the food to Madison School where the baskets will be assembled.
