ROSELLE – Last month, the Roselle Board of Education unanimously appointed Dr. Kevin West as the district’s new Superintendent of Schools.
West, who had previously served as the Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Development and Instruction, replaces outgoing interim Superintendent Joe Martino.
In a letter to parents posted on the district’s web site, West says, “Under my leadership, the major focus for Roselle Public Schools is to improve student achievement and prepare ALL students for college, work, and life in high performing Roselle Public Schools.”
“I will be working closely with and helping develop the skills and talents of our dedicated staff to ensure that we establish a solid foundation of an exemplary educational program that encompasses a challenging, standards-based, aligned curriculum; a caring, personalized approach to teaching and learning; and an adherence to our core belief that ALL Roselle students can achieve at high levels,” he wrote.
West has taught and been an elementary school principal in the Irvington School District. In 2003, the state Department of Education named him New Jersey Principal of the Year. The Irvington resident has also been an administrator for Newark Public Schools prior to coming to Roselle.
