Plainfield Gang Member Found Guilty Of Robbery

ELIZABETH — Yesterday, a Union County jury convicted a Plainfield man of first degree robbery and second degree aggravated assault, authorities announced.

Garret Mattox is a professed five star member of the bloods gang in Plainfield, according to the Union County Prosecutor’s Office. On Jan. 13, 2010, he assaulted and robbed a victim outside the Richmond Beer Garden in Plainfield, said Assistant Prosecutor Jamel Semper who prosecuted the case.

Plainfield Officer Lawanna Burks arrested Mattox two hours after the incident after observing that Mattox fit the description of the suspect and after observing the victim’s blood on Mattox’s boots.

Mattox faces up to 30 years in prison when sentenced next year, according to authorities.
