ELIZABETH — The Benedictine Academy Parents Association held a general meeting on Nov. 10 and recognized Jewell Mendoza for her generosity and kindness. Mendoza, a Union resident, is the mother of two students currently attending the all-female Catholic college prep high school located in Elizabeth. She was lauded by Academy Principal Kenneth Jennings at the meeting for her “act of service”.
Several weeks ago, an assembly was held to honor the Academy’s senior athletes in fall sports- soccer, volleyball, and cross country – seven seniors in total. Mendoza, at her own expense, purchased seven “Build-a-Bears” and then outfitted them with ”bear-sized” shirts she embroidered which sport a BA Green Bee, the school’s mascot on the front, and each student’s name and team number on the back. She surprised the athletes, including her daughter, Andrea, with her gifts at the assembly.
