Rahway Police Investigate Stabbings That Sent 6 To Area Hospitals

RAHWAY – Police are investigating a weekend fight on the 600 block of West Scott Avenue that that resulted in multiple stabbing injuries that sent six people to area hospitals, authorities said today.

Three people were transported to University Hospital in Newark, two were taken to Robert Wood Johnson in New Brunswick and one patient was transported to Robert Wood Johnson in Rahway, according to Rahway Police Detective Sgt. Robert Conroy. Two were admitted to University Hospital, one was admitted to RWJ New Brunswick. All others were treated and released. None of the injuries appear to be life threatening, he said.

According to police, two neighboring residents were having separate parties on Saturday evening. At some point during the evening, the guests from the separate parties began to interact and a fight broke out in the back yards.

Police responded to the incident shortly before 2 a.m. on Sunday, but there had been no calls for police assistance and/or noise complaints in the area earlier in the evening, according to Conroy.

Police at the scene arrested Rahway resident Alex Perez-Avila, 19, for allegedly obstructing the investigation. His bail was set at $500, authorities said.

According to Conroy, the Rahway Police Department is continuing to canvass the area for witnesses and video surveillance from surrounding homes and businesses. Authorities are asking anyone with information relating to the incident to call Rahway Detective Richard Long at 1-732-827-2117.
