MANCHESTER, N.H. – Seniors Lucas Croteau (Rochester, N.H.) and Tory Stapleton (Rahway.) will serve as team captains for the Southern New Hampshire University men’s basketball team in 2011-12. The Penmen open their 2011-12 campaign Friday, Nov. 11 when they host Mercy College in an 8 p.m. contest at the SNHU Fieldhouse.
Stapleton, a graduate of Gill St. Bernard’s, is in his fifth year with the Penmen program and his second as captain. Last season he led Southern New Hampshire in scoring and rebounding, recording 12.4 points and 6.7 rebounds per game while appearing in all but one contest. Stapleton has been the team’s leading scorer in each of the past three seasons and scored his 1,000th career point last season. He enters 2011-12 with 1,073 points, good for 37th in program history.
Croteau, a graduate of Spaulding HS, appeared in all 26 games for the Penmen a season ago and was in the starting lineup 13 times. He finished as the team’s fourth-leading scorer and rebounder, averaging 6.5 points and 3.5 rebounds per game. He has a career-high 21 points in a win over Assumption last season and reached double figures in scoring eight times last season, all coming in the season’s final 12 contests.
