Remembering The Past: East Brunswick Memories

by Diane Norek Harrison

EAST BRUNSWICK-After my Oct. 14 column on the Mid State Mall on Route 18, I received the following e-mail from Lori:

“Diane, I have lived in the township of East Brunswick since 1969, I remember my parents buying my birthday cake each year from The Princess Bakery which was also in Mid State Mall. I can also remember walking with friends to Two Guys which was across the way from Mid State Mall. They had a small restaurant in the back and a few pinball and other games. Our favorite was this one bowling game they had which we used to love to play. It didn’t cost much to eat and play back then so we were able to spend quite a few hours there for under $5 (babysitting money.)

“We also had Pier One on the North Side of route 18 for many years (in the mall where the buffet restaurant is now.) It then closed down only to appear a few years later on the South Side of Route 18 (where Park’s Market is.) Once again it closed down but news came out recently that they are reopening in the new mall (where David’s Bridals is) on the South Side of Route 18. I hope for their sake the third times a charm. Thanks for giving me the chance to walk down memory lane.”
