SCOTCH PLAINS – Union Catholic High School freshman Danielle Cusick of Edison has been selected as the 2011 recipient of the Eldon M. Hammeke Scholarship, school officials announced this week.
The scholarship was established in memory of Mr. Hammeke by his wife Grace, and is supported by the Knights of Columbus Summit Council #783, of which Mr. Hammeke was an active member. The award is presented every year to one current freshman student at a Catholic high school and is renewable for the recipients remaining three years at the school.
Cusick was chosen based on her elementary school performance and her successful integration into Union Catholic. She demonstrates commitment and avid enthusiasm about the beginning of her freshman year and is already involved in Student Movement Against Cancer (SMAC) and hopes to join the softball team in the spring. Past recipients still attending Union Catholic include sophomore Arthur Wright of Woodbridge, junior Brian Cautillo of Union and senior David Schantz of Edison.
