NJCU Men’s Soccer Snaps Losing Streak

JERSEY CITY – New Jersey City University’s men’s soccer team registered a 1-0 shutout against Lehman College on Monday at the Robert L. McNulty Memorial Soccer Field to snap a seven-game losing streak. With the non-conference victory, NJCU improved to 4-10-1.

The only goal came at the 64:16 mark of the second half. After a Lehman foul, junior midfielder Gabriel Avans (Roselle Park/Union Catholic) took a free kick from the right endline that bounced into the box over several NJCU attackers and Lehman fullbacks. Senior midfielder Tom Krychkowski (North Arlington) uncorked a one-timer on the bouncing cross from the left wing into the top left side of the goal for his third goal of the season; he now leads the team in game-winners. He moved into second place on the team with nine points. Gabriel Avans tallied his first assist of the season.

Daniel Sequeira (South River) made three saves to register a shutout in his first career start in goal. NJCU got a solid defensive effort from freshman Edwin Umanzor (Linden) and seniors Henry Guadalupe (Prospect Park/Manchester Regional) and Lionel Emabat (Jersey City/Dickinson).
