ELIZABETH – On Friday, the Union County Homicide Task Force charged a 24-year-old Elizabeth man in connection with the Aug. 14 killing of Abdul Hinton, Prosecutor Theodore J. Romankow announced Monday.
Larry Mays has been charged with aggravated manslaughter, unlawful possession of a weapon, and two counts of aggravated assault for the killing of Hinton and shooting of Payton Taylor Jr. and Shaquana McNair, according to Romankow.
The shooting took place on Aug. 14 at 220 Parker Road. The 19-year-old victim was taken to University Hospital where he was pronounced dead a few hours later.
Mays was charged on Aug. 15 with weapons and drug offenses, also stemming from this incident, according to the prosecutor’s office.
He was arrested by police in Martinsburg, West Virginia on Oct. 8 and charged with an unrelated count of drug possession. Mays is currently in custody at the Eastern Regional Jail in West Virginia on $1 million bail, authorities said.
These criminal charges are mere accusations. The defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
