RAHWAY – Beginning Monday, Oct. 17, Rahway will eliminate school crossing guard posts at the intersections of East Grand Avenue & Paterson Street and West Scott Avenue & Whittier Street.
According to Sgt. Dominick Sforza of the Rahway Police Department’s Community Services Bureau, the department conducted a study last year to determine which crossing guard posts could be eliminated safely. He said that in both cases, there is another nearby post with a crossing guard. The decision to remove the posts was made when crossing guards retired; the reduction did not result in any layoffs, Sforza said.
Police are advising parents to have their children go to the nearest post with a crossing guard if they used either of the posts that are being eliminated.
Parents may contact the Rahway Police Department Traffic Bureau at 1-732-827-2073 with any questions or concerns.
