CLARK — Valley Road School in Clark recently held a kickoff assembly program to launch off the school’s year-long reading program. The assembly program was facilitated by Reading Coordinator Patricia Peitz, a first grade teacher who each year creates a reading theme and plans year-long reading activities. Peitz announced the reading theme for the 2011-2012 school year at the assembly program, “ Read with a Friend… Make a New Trend.” She selected that theme based on the District’s anti-bullying stance.

The kickoff assembly program began with welcome and greetings from Principal Joseph Beltramba. The next speaker was Superintendent of Schools Kenneth Knops, who extolled the virtues of reading as a means of gaining information and as a form of relaxation to his young audience. Peitz then followed with a breakdown of dates for special reading events throughout the school year. The program was very well received by the enthusiastic audience of kindergartners through fifth graders, school officials said.
