GLASSBORO – Rowan University defeated New Jersey City University 3-2 in a New Jersey Athletic Conference men’s soccer game on Saturday night at the Rowan Soccer Field.
Rowan improves to 6-4-2 with the win and evens its NJAC mark at 2-2-1. The Gothic Knights fall to 3-7-1 (0-3-0 NJAC) with its fourth straight loss.
Junior forward Amanfo Assibu (Bronx, N.Y./Sheepshead Bay), playing in just his sixth game in an NJCU uniform, put the Knights in front early in the first half before the Profs scored three consecutive goals for a 3-1 halftime cushion.
Rowan received single goals from freshman midfielder Shane Kohler (Flemington/Hunterdon Central Regional), freshman forward Christian Fountain (Fredericksburg, Va./Stafford), and junior midfielder Shane Dooley (Burlington/Burlington Township).
Assibu added a second goal at the 74th minute marker to bring the Gothic Knights closer, NJCU was unable to net the equalizer
NJCU senior forward Walter Avans (Roselle Park/Union Catholic) provided his team-best fifth assist of the year and 79th point of his career—one shy of Edison Bilbao for fourth place in school history (80 points, 2005-08).
Senior keeper Manny Lojo (Clark/Union Catholic) made six saves for NJCU. Sophomore keeper Ryan Gill (West Deptford) had three stops for the Profs.
