Trudi’s Corner: Talking About Identity Theft

October 7, 2011

By Trudi Cunningham

There are times when I think of so many things to write about, but there are others when I draw a “blank.” Someone said I had a fertile mind. Yea right!

I would say, everybody is intent on doing something in another room will go there and simply won’t remember. How true is that? Too many are concerned in that direction and I just say “forget about it.” It happens. I’m usually pretty good with people’s names, as I try to connect it to something. That usually works.

How many have had a problem with identity theft? Someone just told me it happened to him, and it’s totally tragic. This happened through a computer with charges made against his account that almost wiped him out. One was from Florida and one from China, would you believe? I have mentioned this previously – I will never go this way when it comes to my money.

Many years ago, when I was still working, I was waiting for a new Visa card because the bank’s name had been changed. Would you believe I never got it, but received statements from September through October with charges of more than $6,000 before I got a notice that I was over the amount allowed? It would seem that the card had been stolen, plus others from the post office facility in Jersey City. I didn’t suffer because of it, but think of the inconvenience and aggravation involved with the fraud situation. Unreal!
