Stevens Shuts Out NJCU Men’s Soccer 4-0

HOBOKEN — Stevens Institute of Technology, ranked No. 17 in Division III, scored four goals in the first half and limited New Jersey City University to five shots on goal, as the Ducks defeated NJCU, 4-0, in a non-conference men’s soccer game on Wednesday night at the DeBaun Complex.

In defeat, NJCU junior midfielder Gabriel Avans (Roselle Park/Union Catholic) had four of his squad’s nine shots and senior keeper Manny Lojo (Clark /Union Catholic) stopped seven shots.

Senior defender Pete Bednarsky (Hackettstown/Gill Saint Bernards) had a goal and an assist and sophomore forward Stephen Dunbar (Johns Creek, Ga.) scored a pair of unassisted goals for the third and fourth tallies of the game. Junior forward Victor Daza (North Plainfield/St. Benedict’s Prep) also scored once.

NJCU’s best scoring chance came early in the sixth minute when senior forward Walter Avans (Roselle Park/Union Catholic) had a 1-on-1 breakaway near the top of the box before sophomore keeper Paul Killian (Ellicott City, Md.) was able to break up the play.
