NEW BRUNSWICK – VSA New Jersey will present an exhibit by Monica Giglio at the Red Horse Gallery at the Freehold Raceway Mall from Oct. 3 to Nov. 8. A meet the artist reception will be held on Thursday, Oct. 6 from 6 to 8 p.m.
Located within Arc Resources Unlimited on the upper mall level next to Sears, the Red Horse Gallery is a collaboration of VSA New Jersey and the Arc of Monmouth featuring exhibits by artists with disabilities, special events, and classes. Regular gallery hours are Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The gallery also is open by appointment.
A lifelong artist, Giglio has been selling and exhibiting her work in group and solo shows throughout New Jersey and other states since 1994 and has been asked to participate in the Art-in-Embassies program displaying her work overseas. She has received accolades and acclaim from gallery directors and curators, including a comparison to Mattise and Miro by an art educator in Minnesota who discovered her website, www.monicagioglio.com. Giglio is also a published author, and a columnist for a local newspaper.
Giglio suffers from complications of scoliosis. After several spinal surgeries and procedures, her spine is extremely degenerated and arthritic with several bulging and herniated discs with frequent muscle spasms and nerve impingement, making it impossible to sit, stand, or walk for extended periods. Creating art has become part of her therapy and provides an antidote to, and escape from, chronic pain.
