PITTSBURGH—University of Pittsburgh junior running back Ray Graham was named the Big East Offensive Player of the Week for his exceptional performance in the Panthers’ 44-17 victory over the University of South Florida this past Thursday.

Graham, an Elizabeth High School graduate, was also named the Walter Camp Football Foundation’s National Offensive Player of the Week.

In the Sept. 29 game, Graham rushed for 226 yards and two touchdowns on 26 carries (8.7 avg.) against the previously unbeaten Bulls. He added four receptions for 42 yards and two kick returns for 35 yards, giving him a total of 303 all-purpose yards.

Graham is currently racking up rushing yards at a faster pace than the legendary Tony Dorsett, who had 665 rushing yards after five games in 1976, the year he won the Heisman Trophy and led Pitt to the national title with a 12-0 record. Graham has 734 rushing yards through five games, which is a school record.

The Panthers (3-2, 1-0 Big East) will play at Rutgers (3-1, 1-0) this Saturday, Oct. 8, at 3:30 p.m. The game will be nationally televised by ESPNU.
