POMONA — New Jersey City University outshot Richard Stockton College, 21-5, but the Ospreys jumped out to a 2-0 lead and held off a late Gothic Knight rally for a 2-1 victory in a New Jersey Athletic Conference game on Saturday.

Trailing 2-0, senior forward Walter Avans (Roselle Park/Union Catholic) made it a one-goal game at 80:30 of the second half off a free kick assist by junior defender Eduardo Tejada (North Arlington). The goal was the 34th of Avans’ career and 78th point, tying him with Marc Palumbo (1999-2002) for fifth place in points in school history.

Gothic Knight senior Manny Lojo (Clark/Union Catholic) made one save in defeat.

Pat Rafferty (Brick/Christian Brothers Academy) and Matt Jenne (Kinnelon) scored for Stockton.
