Suspect Charged In Plainfield Stabbing Death

PLAINFIELD – Authorities have arrested and charged a suspect in yesterday’s fatal stabbing of a 48-year-old woman in Plainfield, Union County First Assistant Prosecutor Albert Cernadas, Jr. announced.

Around 5:10 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 28, police were summoned to the 300 block of East 7th Street in Plainfield. When they arrived they found the victim, Audrey Tanksley, 48, on the scene suffering from multiple stab wounds, said Cernadas.

Anthony James, 50, was taken into custody at the scene and charged with murder and weapons possession. He is being held at the Union County Jail on $1 million bail.

The Union County Homicide Task Force and the Plainfield Police Department are continuing the investigation, which revealed that the homicide appears to be an act of domestic violence, according to Cernadas.

As is the case with all criminal defendants, James is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
