NJCU Men’s Soccer Offense Still Ranks Among Nation’s Best

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — The New Jersey City University men’s soccer team now possesses a Top 10 scoring offense. The Gothic Knights (3-3-1) have averaged 3.43 goals per game and rank 10th in Division III among the 402 Division III schools that sponsor men’s soccer, according to the third weekly national statistical report for the 2011 season, released by the NCAA on Tuesday for games played through Sept. 25.

For NJCU, it was a large jump in the national standings, up from 23rd place, despite only playing one game last week—a 4-3 overtime win over St. Joseph’s College (NY).

As a team, NJCU also ranks 14th in assists per game (3.00) and 26th in totals assists (20) and total goals (24).

Individually, senior forward Walter Avans (Roselle Park /Union Catholic) ranks in the Top 50 nationally in five categories—26th in points per game (2.29), 40th in assists per game (0.57), 41st in total points (2.29) and 45th in both goals per game (0.86) and total assists (4).
