NJCU Women’s Soccer Leads NCAA Division III In 4 Categories

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — The New Jersey City University women’s soccer team, led by senior strikers Jennifer Albuja (Union City/Hoboken) and Julia Caseres (Union), lead NCAA Division III in four categories, according to the second weekly national statistical report for the 2011 season for games played through Sept. 18.

Caseres was the NCAA’s national leader in total assists (9) and total points (29), while Albuja, who won a pair of national statistical championships in 2008 in goals per game and points per game, ranked No. 1 in the country in total goals with 12.

As a team, the undefeated Gothic Knights are tied for the best winning percentage in the nation as one of only 16 teams in the nation that have not lost or tied a game.

Among thousands of players at the 427 Division III schools that sponsor women’s soccer, the A-C connection of Albuja-Caseres currently are the most dynamic scoring combination in the United States. While Caseres leads in total points, Albuja ranks No. 2 in total points with 27 entering the week, and added to that total with five points in a win over Ramapo College on September 21. Entering the week, Caseres was third nationally in total goals with 10 and fourth in game-winning goals with three.

In other categories, Albuja was 10th in goals per game (1.50), 14th in points per game (3.38) and 22nd in game-winning goals (2). Caseres listed seventh in assists per game (1.13), ninth in points per game (3.63), and 27th in goals per game (1.25).

Junior midfielder Amanda Spethmann (Wood-Ridge/Hasbrouck Heights—Wood-Ridge) and sophomore center midfielder Brianna Taylor (Linden) were tied for 11th in the nation in total assists with five.
