CLARK – Students at Frank K. Hehnly Elementary School in Clark recently participated in their annual Welcome Back to School Assembly that included an inspirational memorial service to honor the heroes of 9/11.

The students were introduced to the teachers as well as their buddy classes, who are older and younger grades paired up to participate in various events throughout the year together. The entire assembly welcomed new students to Hehnly and the newest members of the school community, the kindergarten classes. The memorial service followed with a moment of silence and the students raising their flags in unison, as new music teacher, James Vavra, played Taps on the piano.

Thanks to teachers Joanne D’Addona and Barbara Jean Delnero, who reached out to Commander Bill Duffy of Clark American Legion Post 328 to donate flags for the students, each child received an American Flag to honor the heroes of Sept. 11, 2001 on the 10-year anniversary of the tragic events that occurred.
