Free Basic Computer Classes Continue

UNION COUNTY – Union County College’s Industry-Business Institute continues their program of free basic computer skills classes this fall. These classes are offered at the Elizabeth and Cranford Campuses of Union County College through a unique partnership of the New Jersey Business and Industry Association (NJBIA), the New Jersey Community College Consortium, and the New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development.

Through the grant-funded NJBIA Project, companies with a minimum class of ten participating employees can bring these classes to their own premises. Although these classes are provided at no charge to the company, employers must pay their employees the customary hourly wage while in training. Companies are not required to provide a minimum number of employees for NJBIA training scheduled at Union County College sites, pay for class tuition, fill out complicated paperwork, or disclose financial statements.

Training is available in the following areas: Computer Applications (Windows, Outlook, Excel, Word). NJBIA program also offers Mathematics and Measurement, Communications (verbal, written and customer relations), and English as a Second Language on a demand basis. For a complete schedule visit the Industry-Business Institute’s page under Community and Business at or call 1-908-965-2359.

If you are interested in learning more about the NJBIA Project program, or to reserve classes for your company, call Lisa Raudelunas Hiscano at 1-908-965-2358, or e-mail her at and be sure to include your contact information and to write “NJBIA Project” in the subject line.

The NJBIA Project program was designed to simplify employee training for New Jersey businesses. Now in its fifth year (2011-2012), this program has already benefited more than 16,550 employees with 1,125 companies and is available through all 63 of the State’s community college campuses.

All classes are one day in length from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Locations are: Elizabeth Campus -Elizabeth I. Kellogg Building, 40 W. Jersey Street, OR Cranford Campus, 1033 Springfield Avenue.
