EDISON — The Edison Department of Health and Human Services will sponsor the inaugural Edison Farmers Market Cooking Challenge on Sunday, Sept. 25.
The Cooking Challenge will be held at the Edison Farmers Market, located at 925 Amboy Avenue, Edison, in the Jade Dynasty Restaurant parking lot. Food entries may only be submitted between 11 a.m. and noon. Contest winners will be announced by 12:45 p.m.
Participants may enter as many dishes as they wish in one of the following categories: appetizer, salad, side dish, main dish or dessert. A panel of five judges will rank the entries on taste, use of a seasonal item, the dishes nutrition and the appearance.
Prizes will be awarded to the top three places in each of the five categories. Prizes include: gift certificates to Farmers Market vendors (Stony Hill Farm, Pop’s Farm Market, Alan’s), gift certificates to local restaurants (LouCas, Ponte Vecchio Italian Seafood Grille and Fresco Steak and Seafood Grille), and gift certificates to local supermarkets.
Interested participants are strongly encouraged to register prior to the event, as a limited number of dishes will be accepted in each category. For more information, a full listing of rules and/or to register, contact Linda Brown at firstname.lastname@example.org or 1-732-404-8608.
Edison’s Farmers Market will remain open for all five weekends through the month of October. Farmers will offer fall crops and flowers.
