September 16, 2011

SOUTH PLAINFIELD-Awhile back someone had mentioned the Middlesex Mall in one of my columns. Here are some businesses that I found that were once there: Bert’s, Caldor, Consumer’s, catalog store, Derby Dog, Discovery Zone, Kodak Jewelry Store, Lanape Leather, Marino’s Deli, Sam Goody, Singer Sewing, Sound-A-Rama, Stern’s, Surprise Store, Taste Bud, a Ticket Master and W.T. Grant’s.

Sports collectable shows were held at the mall.

Builder’s Emporium was once located near the mall.

If you have your own memories or past material for this mall, or any other mall or strip mall, in Middlesex or Union counties, please send to be included in an upcoming column.

Other businesses that were once in South Plainfield: Bennigan’s, The Clubhouse, The Jade Isle, Jos. Kahn Jewelers, Kentile Floors, Knotty Pine Diner, Medici’s Restaurant, Paula’s Ceramics and Standard Plastic.

If you have your own memories of the past in Middlesex or Union counties, email me at dianenorekharrison@juno.com or send copies of your past material to me c/o CMD Media, 1139 East Jersey St., Suite 503, Elizabeth NJ, 07201
