ELIZABETH — Union County College will offer an eight-week professional development writing course at its Elizabeth campus in the Kellogg Building, located at 40 West Jersey Street. “Effective Writing,” will address grammar, style, and presentation of information for business and academic purposes. The class runs from Sept. 22 to Nov. 10 and will be held on Thursdays from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
Union County College is offering this Continuing Education course to assist people in the workplace, the unemployed, recent college graduates and current students, and even prospective book writers to enhance their writing skills.
“Effective Writing” will cover such topics as analyzing and targeting the intended audience, word usage and eliminating unnecessary words, sentence structure, and paragraph development, among other topics. While classes are structured, the flexibility is there to enable every student to have his/her writing concerns addressed appropriately. The course will feature in-class and take-home writing assignments, practical exercises and worksheets, and extensive discussion of how to adapt one’s writing to meet employment and special-interest needs. Students will work from a textbook, workbook, and class notes.
