CLARK — The Clark School District held its annual Superintendent’s Convocation for returning staff members on the morning of Sept.1 in the Arthur L. Johnson auditorium.

The Convocation was facilitated by Superintendent of Schools Kenneth Knops, who used the gathering of all district staff for the purpose of highlighting district accomplishments, awarding Teacher of the Year certificates, presenting certificates to staff members who had attained tenure, highlighting standardized testing results, and reviewing challenges and goals for the upcoming school year. Knops and the four school principals also introduced each newly hired staff member via a Power Point Presentation.

Also presenting at the Superintendent’s Convocation was Clark Police Captain Al Scherb, who provided an update on the cleanup efforts in Clark in the wake of Hurricane Irene, and who reiterated the close working relationship between schools and police. He was followed by Clark Education Fund Vice President Robert Brede, who provided all in attendance with an overview of the Clark Education fund: its mission fundraising initiatives, and mini-grant program. The next speaker was Clark Schools Director of Curriculum and Instruction Vince Caputo who provided an inspiring presentation on the District’s curriculum and instructional initiatives.

The keynote speaker, 22nd Legislative District Assemblyman Jerry Green, was introduced to the assemblage by Knops. Knops described Green as “a personal friend, a friend to the Clark Community, and a tireless supporter of public education and the teachers and students of New Jersey’s public schools.” Assemblyman Green received a rousing welcome and proceeded to deliver a heartfelt and moving talk; stating his admiration for the teaching staff and all they succeed in doing for the students of Clark. He repeated his support of public education and the influence teachers and coaches had on him as a student. At the conclusion of his remarks, Assemblyman Green received a standing ovation from the packed auditorium of district staff members.

In commenting on the Convocation, Knops remarked, “I look forward to this day each year. We have a dynamic and dedicated staff, and the energy in the auditorium jumps out at you. Assemblyman Green was a dynamic and motivational speaker, his words highlighted to the staff their value and importance in the lives of students.”
