Avans Scores, But Cabrini Beats NJCU With Last-Second Goal

YORK, Pa. — Senior forward Walter Avans (Roselle Park/Union Catholic) scored a goal Sunday to move into sixth place in New Jersey City University men’s soccer history with 75 points, moving past Hall-of-Famer Ken Holzschuh (37 goals, 74 points, 1968-71) on the all-time list.

However, that was not enough to bring NJCU a victory in the consolation game of the Holiday Inn Conference Center Soccer Classic, hosted by York College (Pa.) on Sunday. Cabrini College scored three unanswered goals, including the game-winner with just four seconds remaining in regulation, to stun the Gothic Knights, 3-2.

NJCU senior keeper Manny Lojo (Clark/Union Catholic) made one save in the game.
