Trudi’s Corner: TV Commercials

By Trudi Cunningham

How many people keep track or enjoy certain commercials on T.V.? The ones who have to dream them up definitely need to keep it altogether these days, because this is serious business. I’m sure, we all know the money involved in that direction, when you think of what may catch a person’s interest in regards to the product or subject presented.

How many can remember “My Three Sons” on T.V. with Fred MacMurray? I don’t know who the person is doing that Geico commercial, but listening to him and checking back, it absolutely puts him in mind, wouldn’t you agree? How about the little gecko driving that jazzy little car, or the duck in the Aflac commercials? How many can remember that ice cream commercial – I believe it may have been Turkey Hill – with the baby crawling to get his treat and “grandpop” getting up from his rocker and “shimmying” so fast for his treat in the kitchen?

They really haven’t been so terrific lately, except for the one advertising a cereal and the little one asking about the prize that could be included. How cute is that? Now my thoughts go to the latest one that absolutely throws me for a “loop.” I know so much is being pushed in regards to smoking, but the latest one, I believe, is “gross.” I’m not sure about other people’s reactions, but rest assured that I lower my volume immediately to avoid the sound. I know several people who use oxygen, but I’ve never heard or seen anyone with a breathing situation be in such distress.

Then again, if it makes anyone aware of the danger about smoking, hopefully it will serve the purpose.
