Workshop Offers Introduction To Container Gardening

SOUTH BRUNSWICK — Does condo or apartment living limit your gardening efforts? Are you looking for a new way to busy your green thumb?

The Rutgers Cooperative Extension of Middlesex County will offer an “Introduction to Container Gardening” workshop at the EARTH Center, Davidson’s Mill Pond Park, 42 Riva Avenue, South Brunswick, on Saturday, Sept. 24, from 12:30 – 2:30 p.m.

Dr. Fred Primich, a Rutgers Master Gardener and longtime container gardening enthusiast, will present the seminar. The long history of the growing technique, as well as best practices for success, will be presented. Plants grown in containers or pots are less vulnerable to soil conditions, including insects and disease. Plants in containers are potentially mobile as well. By attending this workshop in the fall, gardeners will have enough information to properly plan their container garden for 2012.

Call the Middlesex County’s Extension office at 1-732-398-5262 to register for the workshop. The fee for the course is $20 and registration is required by Sept. 21. Workshop attendees will need no prior experience and materials will be provided, though attendees may bring their own.
