Blueclaws Lead League In Attendance For 11th Straight Year

LAKEWOOD – For the 11th time in as many years, the Lakewood BlueClaws minor league baseball team has led the South Atlantic League in attendance.

With 6,263 fans per game coming to FirstEnergy Park – 93 fans per game more than 2010 – the BlueClaws wrapped up their 11th straight attendance title and now begin the push towards five million fans, which will happen early in 2012.

The BlueClaws drew 382,070 to FirstEnergy Park this year, bringing their 11-year total to 4,838,603 fans, 161,397 shy of 5-million. The BlueClaws will have an extensive five millionth fan program that will be announced at a later date.

“It was another great summer at the Shore,” said BlueClaws General Manager Geoff Brown. “From the banner raising on Opening Day to a 9,000-plus crowd at our home finale, our fans showed once again why they are the best in the country.”

The largest crowd of the season was 9,503 on Aug. 18; all told, there were eight crowds of over 8,000, bringing the 11-year total to 108.

On the field, the BlueClaws made runs in both halves but ultimately fell short, getting eliminated in the second half with a loss on Sept. 2.

Jesse Biddle, the Philadelphia Phillies’ first round pick from 2010, and Jim Murphy, who tied the BlueClaws single-season home run record with 22, were both named to the South Atlantic League post-season All-Star team.

Opening Day 2012 is on April 12 against Hagerstown. Ticket packages and group outings will go on sale in October with individual game tickets going on sale at FanFest in March. For more information, call 1-732-901-7000 or visit
