STATE – Utilities are still working to restore service to customers who are without power because of Hurricane Irene. As of 4 a.m. this morning, less than 4,400 PSE&G customers were still affected.
Having restored service to circuits that serve large numbers of customers, PSE&G crews are now completing the isolated complex problems, such as where trees that have fallen across wires and pulled down poles that have to be removed, the poles replaced, and the wires and other equipment reconnected and energized. These problems are affecting small pockets of customers.
Most PSE&G customers should see service restored today, though some in Middlesex, Somerset and Union counties are expected to have to wait until Sunday.
JCP&L reported that approximately 36,000 customers were still waiting for service to be restored as of 9 a.m. this morning.
