METUCHEN – The Most Rev. Paul G. Bootkoski will celebrate a “9/11 Mass of Remembrance” on Sunday, Sept. 11 to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the terrorist attacks that claimed the lives of almost 3,000 people in New York, Pennsylvania and Washington, D.C.
The special liturgy will be held at noon in the Cathedral of St. Francis of Assisi, 32 Elm Avenue.
“So many thousands of people were so deeply affected by the acts of terror and of heroism that took place a decade ago, it is important for us to gather to remember and pray for the innocent lives lost and to continue to ask God for healing and peace,” said Bishop Bootkoski.
Parishes throughout the Diocese of Metuchen will commemorate the 10th Anniversary of the terrorist attacks with special readings for peace and justice at all weekend Masses. The ringing of bells and ecumenical services are also being planned at some parishes.
