Art Center Series To Explore What Art Is About

SUMMIT — Noted art and cultural critic Dan Bischoff will lead the Lifelong Learning Series: What Art Is About course at the Visual Arts Center of New Jersey from Oct. 4-Nov. 1.

Bischoff will explore compelling questions of contemporary art such as “Why do artists do what they do?” and “What is art?” Each lecture will unveil the cultural, aesthetic and political meaning of 21st century visual art and lead the audience to a better understanding of this complex and intriguing era.


The five lectures include:

  • Materials and Their Transubstantiation, Oct. 4
  • Naked, Nude, and Naughty, Oct. 11
  • Art and Power, Oct. 18
  • How Art Brings Death to Life, Oct. 25
  • Celebrity, Nov. 1
