LINDEN – Police are investigating the shooting of a 22-year-old Linden man who was wounded earlier this morning at the 1000 block of Wheatsheaf Road.
Just before 2 a.m. on Aug. 23, police received a report of gunshots fired. Witnesses told officers that a dark-colored Jeep Cherokee had sped away from the scene.
Police found the shooting victim at Trinitas Hospital in Elizabeth, where he was being treated for a gunshot wound to his arm. The victim told officers that he was a rear-seat passenger in a vehicle, which had stopped on the 1000 block of Wheatsheaf Road to pick up a friend. He heard gunshots and felt pain in his arm.
Police said that a witness told them that the Jeep Cherokee appeared to be following the other vehicle. Two men got out of the Jeep and fired at the vehicle occupied by the victim when the two vehicles stopped, according to the witness, police said. The driver of the second vehicle sped off and drove the victim to the hospital.
Authorities are looking for the Jeep Cherokee, described as dark-colored, possibly blue, with tinted windows and a red and white sticker in the shape of a circle on the rear tailgate. Anyone with information may contact Det. Eddie Adams at 1-908-474-8537 or email email@example.com.
