PERTH AMBOY —The city’s third annual Family Day celebration is this Saturday, Aug. 20, from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m., Mayor Wilda Diaz announced. The event is free and open to all city residents.
Family Day, since it began, has drawn a crowd of over 2,000 people along Sadowski Parkway from High Avenue to Second Street. This year, local salsa and jazz band Manny Pacheco y Toque Final will be performing alongside a DJ to offer a variety of music for all attendees.
Other highlights include:
- Rides and Activities: Moonwalk, obstacle course, ball crawl, bouncy boxing, jumbo slide miniature golf, sumo wrestling and a bungee run, rock climbing wall, balloon twister, kayaking, sailing and face painting.
- Food and Snacks: Hamburgers, french fries and corn on the cob, cotton candy, popcorn and ice cream and bottled water.
- Games and Contests: Water balloon toss, pie-eating contest, beach relay races, carnival games and prizes, over 50 raffled bicycles & helmets and more give-a-ways.
“We have a great turnout every year,” Diaz said. “Families are excited to do something fun with their children and friends before they go back to school, free of charge. I sincerely appreciate the sponsorship of our local businesses and organizations and the participation of our youth volunteers.”
In addition, over 30 municipal, county and local organizations will be present including, Office of Recreation, Police and Fire, Jewish Renaissance Medical Center Dental Van, Raritan Bay YMCA, Middlesex County Youth One-Stop, YMCA, Friends of the Perth Amboy Public Library, Department of Veteran’s Affair, Happy Home Shelter and the Middlesex County Health Department providing service information, handouts and blood pressure screenings for the public.
