UNION COUNTY – Legislation that will help preserve two Union County historic sites was signed into law on Monday.

The bill (A-4058) appropriates about $10.85 million from 2009 Historic Preservation Fund and the 2007 Historic Preservation Fund to provide grants for historic preservation projects. The funding was approved by voters during 2007 and 2009 referendums.

Among other projects, the bill provides:

  • $79,242 for the First Presbyterian Church of Elizabeth.
  • $150,000 for the Oswald J. Nitschke House in Kenilworth.

Union County Democrats Asm. Joseph Cryan and Asw. Annette Quijano co-sponsored the bill, which received unanimous approval in the Legislature.
