Rahway Student Wins Award

TEANECK — The Hispanic Business Council Scholarship Foundation of NJ, Inc. of Teaneck awarded $40,000 in scholarships and book stipends to 19 current college and college-bound Hispanic students at the organization’s 20th annual scholarship gala, “Developing Future Leaders”. Eleven scholarships were awarded ranging from $2,000 to $4,000 and eight book stipends were granted ranging from $500 to $1,000.

Christine Torres of Rahway received a $1,000 book stipend. Torres, a graduate of Rahway High School, will attend Vassar College in the fall.

The foundation, a nonprofit, tax-exempt organization, has a mission to advance the educational aspirations of Hispanic students so that they may become professionals, leaders and valued citizens of the community. The foundation accomplishes this by providing scholarships for a college education based on academic excellence and financial need.
