Police Investigating New Brunswick Hospital Worker’s Killing

NEW BRUNSWICK — Police are actively investigating the death of a hospital worker who was fatally shot on a city street early Saturday morning, according to Middlesex County Prosecutor Bruce J. Kaplan and Anthony A. Caputo, director of the New Brunswick Police Department.

Jesse Simons, 61, of New Brunswick was pronounced dead at 2:28 a.m. on Aug. 6 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, where he was taken after he was shot on Suydam Street near Remsen Avenue in New Brunswick.

An investigation by Detective Mark Pappas of the New Brunswick Police Department and Investigator Michael Daniewicz of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office began after police received a 911 call at 1:56 a.m., alerting them to the shooting.

Simons, who was employed as a patient escort at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, was the father of two daughters, aged 21 and 6.

Authorities have released surveillance photos of three people who may have information on Simons’ death. The three individuals, described as persons of interest, were seen in surveillance videos in the vicinity of Suydam Street and Remsen Avenue in New Brunswick at about the time of the shooting
