Trudi’s Corner: Two For One Isn’t Always A Deal

It amazes me – or maybe at times amuses me – when I see ads and the inducements stores use to attract customers. At this point, they’re using gas credits as a come-on. I do like the ones that advertise health items, “buy one, get one free.” In some instances, I’m definitely partial to certain food products and juices, and I’m always on the alert for ice cream deals.

Now, for the other side of the coin and what is being offered. You must buy certain products from a definite company, and spend a definite amount of money, to get the benefit of the special offer. I’ve noticed this over the years at Thanksgiving and Christmas. Give me a break! You must spend several hundreds of dollars to get a bonus for their “freebies.” Trust me, I never make it.

Have these stores ever given consideration to a household with one or two people or how they may benefit by these opportunities? I have never made it. What in heaven’s name would I do with some of that which has been offered? I would run out of storage space, or possibly open up my own business or have a yard sale. It just doesn’t seem fair in a lot of instances. I’m glad for those who go this way, considering however many families do benefit, or even share.

I do appreciate discount coupons, except for the ones that now state you must buy two. That I resent. I do call companies if I’m not happy with a product, but by the same token I call and tell them about something if I am pleased. They appreciate that was well. I am sometimes rewarded with additional coupons in compensation. Trust me, it’s worth the effort.
